Fierce fighting engulfed Sanaa on Friday as explosions rocked the Yemeni capital. Flashes of gunfire and plumes of smoke were seen rising on a hillside in the Hadda suburb of the capital, near the presidential palace. A Western diplomat said President Ali Abdullah Saleh was slightly wounded when shells struck his palace in Sanaa as Yemen slid toward civil war. Some of those wounded in fighting in Sanaa between forces loyal to Yemen's President and tribal fighters were recovering in hospital on Friday. Protests against Saleh's rule have intensified since January. Street fighting in Sanaa killed at least 135 people in the past 10 days. Jon Decker, Reuters.
