Tanks firing at rebels as government forces entered the city Sunday, killing at least 45 people. Amateur video shows smoke blanketing the city after the dawn attack that followed a month-long seige. Locals also said electricity and water had been cut. Protesters nationwide have been trying to oust President Bashar al-Assad since March. A local activist group reported last week that more than 1,600 have been killed since the revolt began. The city has a history of bloody uprisings - up to 30,000 were killed here when Bashar's father sent the military to quell an Islamist-led uprising in 1982. Lindsey Parietti, Reuters
