A funeral procession for two Palestinians killed by Israeli soldiers in an overnight raid on a West Bank refugee camp near Ramallah. Palestinian medical officials said two men were shot in the head and in the stomach. An Israeli military spokesman said riots broke out in the refugee camp during an operation to arrest Palestinian suspects, and that five Israeli soldiers were lightly injured. Palestinians plan to seek full UN membership in September for an independent state in the West Bank and Gaza. President Mahmoud Abbas called on Palestinians to step up peaceful protests against Israel ahead of the UN bid. The Israeli military has said it will bolster border defences in anticipation of protests inspired by the Arab Spring. Nick Rowlands, Reuters.
