Dec. 23 - Aung San Suu Kyi registers her party for the next Myanmar elections. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.
After years in exile pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi registers her party for upcoming elections in Myanmar. Her National League for Democracy party was taken off the list of legally recognized parties in Myanmar after it boycotted 2010's elections. But now it's being reinstated. The 66-year-old Nobel Peace Laureate has been blocked from politics and held in detention for long stretches since returning to her home country in 1988. She was freed by Myanmar's military leaders last year after it held the first election in 20 years. No date has been set for the election. Deborah Lutterbeck, Reuters
