May 10 - A French dance company has brought a CAT digger to life in an unusual duet between a man and an excavator. Sonia Legg reports
It's probably the world's most unlikely dance partner but French performer Philippe Praisson likes a challenge. His group 'Beau geste' performed in the Latvian capital Riga to a rather bemused audience. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) MAN FROM AUDIENCE, ANATOLIY NAGIYEV SAYING: "I am very happy that I saw it - the mix of classical and technical, the union of vehicle and man, and even - may I say - the statement of love in this interaction is quite unique." The so-called "transports exceptionnels" are attracting crowds across the world. Priasso has now performed at least 300 times in 40 countries - using a variety of machines. The director of Latvia's International Ballet Festival watched this show with interest. (SOUNDBITE) (Latvian) INTERNATIONAL BALLET FESTIVAL DIRECTOR, LITA BEIRIS SAYING: "I would not be up to something like that. It is only something the French could come up with. It seems unreal, still it is true, and how can anybody come up with an idea like that - a human body and a machine? And what a machine! It resembles a huge hand, and there is a dialogue with this hand." The earth didn't move for everyone watching the seductive dance - but considering the job Priasso's partner normally does - that's probably a good thing. Sonia Legg, Reuters.
