June 3 - Activists say a dark cloud of smoke over the Syrian town of Jericho was part of the aftermath of an attack by government forces. Deborah Gembara reports.
An ominous column of smoke could be seen over the of Jericho ---the purported aftermath of government shelling according to new video posted to a social media website. A tank reportedly destroyed by rebel forces. Reuters cannot independently verify the content of this video. Outside of Damascus, opponents of President Bashar al Assad chanted "We have not forgotten the blood of the martyrs." The demonstration took place as the president condemned the killing of 100 people more than a week ago. In a speech to parliament, Assad attributed the massacre to terrorists acting at the direction of foreign groups. He also pledged to continue a crackdown on such groups. Deborah Gembara, Reuters
