Aug. 12 - Battles rage in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, where rebels face attacks by Syrian army tanks, artillery and snipers. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.
Aleppo under fire. Syria's biggest city is seen as a vital prize by both sides in the 17-month-old uprising against President Bashar al-Assad. Amateur video out of Syria which could not be independently verified by Reuters appears to show government tanks. Bodes of Syrian soldiers are left in the street. Rebels took control of parts of the city early this month. Now they are facing a government onslaught to drive them out. More footage from Idlib province shows residents pulling a victim from the rubble of a collapsed building. Rights groups say more than 160 Syrians, including 116 civilians, were killed across the country on Saturday.
