Citizens run for safety amid the sound of gunfire in Yemen. Clashes break out in Sanaa Tuesday between Yemeni troops and the elite Republican Guards who surrounding the Defense Ministry in a challenge to a military restructuring. There were no immediate reports of casualties. Last week, Yemen's president reshuffled the guards in what analysts say is an attempt to curb their power. The Guards action reflects the continuing turmoil in Yemen six months after President Ali Abdullah Saleh stepped down to end months of protests against his 33-year rule.
