Aug. 23 - Syrian state television airs footage of a demonstration in support of president Bashar al-Assad and weapons it says have been seized from rebels. Simon Hanna reports.
Syrian government troops are greeted as heroes at a rally in support of president Bashar al-Assad in Aleppo. The demonstration was aired Tuesday on Syrian state TV. The show of support takes place as a 17 month-long popular uprising against Assad and his regime continues. More than 250 people, including 171 civilians, were killed across the country on Tuesday, as clashes between government forces and rebel fighters showed no sign of letting up. Syrian state TV also broadcast images of a weapons haul which was said to be seized from rebels in Mouadamiya, one of the first districts to join the uprising.
