Aug. 27 - With heavy fighting underway in Syria's city of Aleppo, video uploaded to social media websites purports to show clashes between government forces and rebels. Sarah Sheffer reports.
Syrian rebels and forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad battle for control of Aleppo. Video uploaded to a social media website -- that Reuters cannot independently -- verify purports to show some of the clashes. Reuters journalists in the city confirm there has been heavy fighting here. Fighter jets dropped bombs and fired missiles on rebel-held districts in the south of Aleppo as residents fled in panic on Sunday. This further activist video is said show the aftermath of one air strike on a building and oil tanker in the al-Bab district. Other footage reportedly documents an attack on the Bustan al-Zahara neighbourhood. Rebels say they control at least half of the city of 2.5 million, but their hold is fragile as long as Assad's forces unleash their air power against the fighters.
