In an interview with Tom Ferraro, Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) warns President Obama he will not be able to get 20-30 Republicans to vote with him in the current fiscal battle as Lincoln does with Democrats in Steven Spielberg's movie on the passage of the 13th amendment banning slavery. ''This isn't Spielberg's Lincoln,'' says Cole, a House deputy whip. ''He's going to have to come to an understanding with Speaker Boehner.''
Our negotiators to speaker. The as a joke to somebody I love that -- Spielberg movie Lincoln you know where he's put together votes for the the thirteenth amendment the president needs to understand this isn't Steelers -- not going to be able to go get twenty or thirty guys she's gonna have to basically. Come to an understanding with the speaker. Don't take. You know pro active movement that involves Republican House a democratic senator and democratic president to avoid that tax rate you know it. It increase if we can do that for 98% of the people. I think that's that's the Smart thing you I don't think you you know. People pledge or whatever by letting taxes go up on everybody as a deputy whip and you could you share -- with the strategy Republicans. Is at this point going forward the president needs to understand I think does understand that our negotiators speaker. He as a joke to somebody I love that -- Spielberg movie Lincoln you know we've put together votes for the the thirteenth amendment. Of the amendment or this confederate -- you cannot. And hundreds of thousands died and administration. Congress must never been playing well those whom god. Yeah. -- just two days now. -- of human thing. The president needs to understand this isn't Steelers like to not going to be able go get twenty or thirty guys she's gonna have to basically. Come to an understanding with the speaker. By what they've done this before human being and made a big tax deal and -- back in 2010 and extended the tax rates president got some things for that they made a big deal on the budget. In April 2011 that cut discretionary spending for the first time since nine late forties. They made did a big deal on the debt ceiling itself that was a multi trillion dollar you know decade long deal this is even bigger. But that these guys have done before. We've always gotten down to the end I'd love that if we could do a little bit earlier. And I love it if we do in the way and I think that's right thing to do that most Americans don't feel threatened by this made the first thing they did was take care of us the average person. Prediction. What will happen next two weeks through Christmas and I look I'm always an optimist on this these things. I have a lot of faith and John Boehner. Again I think he's a skillful negotiator I think he's a reasonable negotiating partner for the president's standpoint I think he understands this conference very very well. I think the president honestly is in Newark this he didn't do a lot in the senate he was Hussein there. You know I think he's just learning this part of the business so to speak. So I'm hopefully that overplay his hand because you know what the president's people need to understand this is both -- strength and weakness. Presents president for four years -- and is probably may not go up may go down but he's president for four years. The speaker is only speaker as long -- he commands the majority of this conference so any deal. Past to have it seemed to be a majority of the majority behind it's got to be something that John Boehner. Can convince his team is good again I think our comp our coverage as high. Confidence in him. So if each side understands. The political positioning and the other is a lot easier to come to an accommodation.
