Dec. 20 - Dick's Sporting Goods in Danbury, Connecticut pulls all guns from its shelves, while the nationwide chain bans the sale of the AR-15 type Bushmaster rifle used in the Newtown massacre. Travis Brecher reports.
Dick's Sporting Goods has pulled all guns from the shelves of its store closest to the site of the Newtown massacre, and suspended the sale of certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles from its stores nationwide. The AR-15 type Bushmaster assault rifle, like the one Adam Lanza used in his shooting spree at Sandy Hook Elementary, can no longer be found here. Shoppers had mixed feelings. (SOUNDBITE) (English) COLEEN PERROTTA, CONNECTICUT RESIDENT, SAYING: "I think that's great. Personally, I think people have the right to bear arms, but I don't see any reason why any citizen that's not part of the police department or special forces, or military needs to have any kind of weapon that can shoot many rounds in a few seconds." (SOUNDBITE) (English) MATT HECKER, CONNECTICUT RESIDENT, SAYING: "It's obnoxious for me as a sporting shooter. Can't buy ammo. Can't possibly buy a new gun. That's why I'm actually here...to see what they pulled off the shelves. It's obnoxious for me...for all the law abiding, sane citizens." The company which manufactures the Bushmaster will be up for sale immediately in response to investor concerns, according to its private equity owner Cerberus Capital Management LP.
