Dec. 21 - From Turkey to Romania to Bulgaria, heavy snow and winds pummel Eastern Europe. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
There has been heavy snowfall across the east Turkey. Drivers had trouble on the slick roads, while pedestrians found similar difficulties on slippery sidewalks. In Romania, heavy snow put six counties under a white blanket and led to several road accidents. Snowfall and strong winds has cut off at least one remote village from the outside world. And in Bulgaria, authorities declared a state of emergency after heavy snow brought parts of the area to a standstill. Rows of trucks were lined up along some streets, with truck drivers attempting to catch some sleep despite the freezing conditions. There were power outages amidst the strong winds and heavy snow and temperatures are expected to plummet further over the next few days.
