Mar 14 - Sales of Samsung's latest smartphone, the Galaxy S 4, could top 10 million units in the first month after its launch, according to analysts’ predictions. Conway G. Gittens reports.
The Daily Digit is 10 million. Samsung's latest smartphone, the Galaxy S4, could top 10 million unit sales in the first month after its launch, analysts say. But it's all hush-hush for now, until the new device is unveiled at Radio City Music Hall in New York on Thursday. For now, no one really knows how it looks, nor what it offers. Well, no one except for Apple Marketing Chief Phil Schiller. Just hours before the Galaxy 4 S launch, Schiller jumped down Samsung's throat, highlighting the new phone will be using Google's year-old Android operating system, which will need to be updated. It's no surprise Apple is taking a swing at Samsung. Last year, Samsung took Apple's spot as the world's top smartphone maker. Samsung has been a quick learner -when it comes to marketing. Its campaign for the new smartphone looks pretty much like the ones Apple would fancy, with invitations weeks in advance, a flash mob in Times Square, trailers, and a mysterious silhouette of the new phone from Samsung's Twitter account. Plus, Samsung is taking the fight to Apple's home turf. The Galaxy S 4 will be unveiled just blocks away from Apple's flagship store. The launch will be streamed live via Samsung Mobile's YouTube page and broadcast in Times Square.
