(ROUGH CUT ONLY - NO REPORTER NARRATION) Nelson Mandela's wife Graca Machel said on Thursday that the former president is recovering well and will not be discharged from hospital until doctors are satisfied with his recovery. The 94 year-old former statesman has been receiving treatment for pneumonia and a recurring lung infection. Using Mandela's clan name 'Madiba', Machel told local television journalists that her husband was "fine". (SOUNDBITE) (English) NELSON MANDELA'S WIFE, GRACA MACHEL, SAYING: "Madiba is fine. Madiba is getting better and better. He is in hospital simply because the doctors want to be absolutely sure that he is strong enough to go home and that nothing is going to recur, but thank you very, very, very much for lifting him up. God is listening." Mandela has spent just over a week in hospital. This is the third health scare in four months for the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who became South Africa's first black president in 1994 and was hailed as a global symbol of tolerance and harmony. Machel, who's been at Madiba's side in hospital since he was admitted, also thanked the South African people and those who have been praying and sending their best wishes to Mandela.
