At least five people are dead after a gunman went on a shooting spree in Santa Monica California on Friday that ended with the gunman being killed by police on the campus of a community college. Police say the rampage started before noon when they received calls about a house fire, a carjacking and several shootings. Some bodies were discovered at the scene of the fire... more bodies were found at other locations. A Santa Monica police officer explained what happened next. SOUNDBITE (English) JACQUELINE SEABROOKS, SANTA MONICA POLICE CHIEF, SAYING: "The suspect headed toward the library, shot a woman on the campus just before entering the library, accosted a number of patrons inside the library and attempted to shoot at them. Those individuals were able to find safety in a safe location inside the library however he continued to shoot at them. The officers came in and directly engaged the suspect and he was shot and killed on the scene." Police say another person has been taken into custody. The violence took place only a few miles from where President Barack Obama was attending a political fundraiser at the time.
