July 30 - Ex-teen star Miley Cyrus explains why she's such a passionate advocate of gay marriage. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
ROUGH CUT - NO NARRATION Ex-teen star Miley Cyrus spoke out about her passion for gay marriage to be legalised while promoting her new single and album in London. The singer and actress has the symbol of two stripes associated with gay marriage tattooed on her finger. Cyrus explained "My granddad was a democratic legislator so I was brought up to be someone like that, someone that is very... my grand-dad was a man that was for the people and I'm like that too. I'm really involved in politics in the way that I think everyone should be able to be free to be who they are. The law is there to keep us all safe and to keep the world sane because if we didn't have laws it would be even worse than it is but for things like gay marriage, that's not hurting anybody that's not affecting anyone's life, and I think it's important for so all reasons, not just because of love but I mean, it's so important for people financially and because of health. Everyone should be able to be the same, it's kind of what the States are saying now - it doesn't matter if you're rich or poor you deserve to be able to be taken care of and your health should be able to be taken care of. That's the same way for people that have been together longer than my parents. If something happens to them, they've built this whole life together and it should be treated the same way as a man and a woman in the way they've built a life together, so there's so many reasons that gay marriage.... and I'm happy it's passed in L.A. now. We're on the way to where... I hope one day my kids are like me where I asked my grandma 'I couldn't imagine life being segregated by colour'. I hope my kids feel that way about gays. I want them to be like 'Mum, you lived in a time where that couldn't happen.' That's so weird and foreign to them. I want that to be that way hopefully, one day."
