Syrian TV airs footage of government forces on the ground in Latakia -- the home province of President Bashar al-Assad. The fighting comes after several villages in the province have been overrun by Sunni Muslim insurgents over the past few days. Syrian TV says the government is in the process of regaining control of some of those villages. A soldier says he is determined to "crush these rats" A local resident says he will has a weapon and will carry rocks to fight the "infidels". The U.N. has received reports over the past few days that more than 3,000 families have been displaced the area. The uprising in Syria began more than two years ago with peaceful protests. It has since descended into civil war costing the lives of more than 100,000 people.
