Aug 13 - Unveiling the Hyperloop, buying a solar marketing company, keeping up Tesla electric car production, signing up SpaceX customers, all in a few days work for billionaire Elon Musk. Conway G. Gittens reports.
Elon Musk is busy and he wants you to know it. Tweeting that he pulled an all-nighter to make sure designs for the Hyperloop super-speed transport system were ready for unveiling by the end of business on Monday… By Tuesday morning, his SolarCity unit was announcing plans to snap up a solar panel direct marketing company for $120 million... And that's on top of overseeing the production and expansion of his popular Tesla S electric car, where sales growth has to live up to expectations priced into a 335 percent rise in Tesla stock price year-to-date. And he's not done yet. SpaceX, his privately-owned space company, now has 50 missions planned, including a satellite radar launch for Germany. And if that's not enough, Musk is hinting he somehow found time to change his mind in less than a week, now telling the media he may not be busy enough, and may use his own money and time to make the Hyperloop a reality. Maybe - another part of his strategy to keep his name and all his companies at the top of the media's watch list.
