Sept. 10 - The billionaire real estate mogul plans to revamp the Old Post Office Pavilion into a luxurious hotel. He has leased the building from the government for 60 years. Linda So reports.
In the heart of D.C., blocks from the U.S. Capitol, the Old Post Office Pavilion has stood as an iconic landmark on America's main street. Now the historic building is about to undergo a complete makeover thanks to billionaire real estate developer Donald Trump. SOUNDBITE: DONALD TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE TRUMP ORGANIZATION SAYING: "We had a vision that I think was, well, the winning vision." Trump plans to transform the Old Post Office into a luxurious $200 million dollar hotel. It will boast a nine-story atrium, a magnificent Grand Ballroom, an historic board room and spacious guest rooms that are more than 600 square feet in size. SOUNDBITE: DONALD TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE TRUMP ORGANIZATION SAYING: "As far as the building itself, it will be magnificent, at the highest level." The Clock Tower will be preserved, and tours will continue through the National Park Service. Trump says projects like this are his passion. SOUNDBITE: DONALD TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE TRUMP ORGANIZATION SAYING: "I'd rather do jobs like this, and do something really that the world can cherish, and that the world can see, and that everybody in D.C. can truly be proud of, and that's what we're going to do." Construction will begin next Spring with completion by the end of 2015. The hotel will be called the "Trump International Hotel, Washington D.C."
