Sept. 17 - The Israel Museum displays a Botticelli masterpiece, ''The Annunciation of San Martino alla Scala,'' on loan from the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. Tara Cleary reports.
Visitors to Jerusalem's Israel Museum are all abuzz about this 15th-century fresco by Italian Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli. "The Annunciation of San Martino alla Scala" was painted in 1481 and is on loan from Italy. Museum director James Snyder says it's a masterful example of early Renaissance Italian painting. SOUNDBITE: James Snyder, Israel Museum director, saying (English): "In the category of the great European masters really we don't hold the kinds of riches that the European collections do and on this occasion of the 65th anniversary year of the state of Israel, Italy has been very gracious in making a loan to us of a work of this quality." The painting, which is likely to draw more crowds during the Jewish holidays in September, will be on display for four months.
