Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said talks with his Republican counterpart were ''productive'' and he was confident of avoiding default, but Tea Party lawmakers in the House vowed to fight on.
I had a productive conversation with Republican leader this afternoon. For discussions were substantive. And we'll continue those discussions. Optimistic about the prospects for positive conclusion. I'm confident Republicans will allow the government often extend. The ability of this country and pay its bills. The good stuff is that senator McConnell and senator Reid both understood the gravity of default and how we had to avoided. And while I don't wanna get into details of the framework -- -- we're not that far more with the president. The senate Democrats with -- senate Republicans there's wheeled. We now have to find a way we know the house won't find that way so hold. All of -- rests on our shoulders about it. -- -- -- I respect senator -- she didn't make any bones about what he was gonna do when he came to Washington. The question is is should we follow that leadership or should we go in other directions and coalesced the majority of the American people. But I guess we can get lower in the polls we're down to blood red blood relatives and paid staffers now. It's just but. We've got to turn this around the Tea Party took office because they think Washington is ignoring their underlying problems are spending too much my -- If you factor just interject here I think you've got a problem coming and maybe wars and all of that and that is if the government -- -- -- On aids -- There are no payments due on October 17. Compared creditors there are no payments due until November 15 that's why Moody's. As indicated it's not going to -- that tiger a major impact congress I don't -- interrupt you here but that's not what the secretary of the treasury and I think I clearly White House is trying to scare the markets and I think that's unfortunate. -- but the other day that the reality is October 17 is that it's a date that. Well not have a major impact unless the White House is able to a great concern about that but the real concern is not raising the debt ceiling Bob. I mean the frustration I have. And I think most Americans have this is not only games but more importantly the ignorant ignorance of the major problem seventeen trillion dollar debt. If there is -- degree of destruction. Not the lack of certainty. That's lack of trust in the US citizenship. It would mean -- massive disruption. The world over and we would be at risk of tipping yet again. And the recession that that was the impression -- that being able. And when you all the largest economy in the world. When you all the safe heaven. And or circumstances. Has been the case. You can't go into that -- eighteen accounting business. You have to augment -- signature. You have to give certainty to the rest of the world. And you have to make sure that your own economy is is consolidating -- welcome recovery that we have seen.
