Dec. 4 - Director David O. Russell talks about the talent behind Jennifer Lawrence at the Los Angeles premiere of the 70's period drama, ''American Hustle.'' John Russell reports.
Los Angeles rolled out the red carpet Tuesday night (December 03) for the premiere of the '70's drama film, "American Hustle" and despite the absence of Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, there was still plenty of power from the all-star cast. Director David O. Russell was joined at the premiere by Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner. "American Hustle" tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that's as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner plays a passionate and volatile New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Jennifer Lawrence plays Irving's unpredictable wife. Filmmaker Russell, who had previously worked with Jennifer Lawrence in "Silver Linings Playbook," also weighed in on his star's title as Hollywood's latest "it" girl. SOUNDBITE David O. Russell saying (English): "I had a feeling about Jennifer. But, I had no idea how deep her talent is and I still think that we have only begun to see that or also how charismatic she would be or what would happen to her in the world. We had no idea. When she showed up for 'Silver Linings' no one knew who she was and we are so happy that she came in to do this role in 'American Hustle.' She knocked it out of the park." The film opens in New York and Los Angeles on December 13, with its nationwide release coming a week later on December 18.
