March 25 - With Vice President Selina Meyer running for the Oval Office the stars of 'Veep' say she's in for a tough ride this season. Francis Maguire reports.
The stars of hit comedy "Veep" were on the red carpet to celebrate its third season premiere. The show follows U.S. Vice President Selina Meyer and her team of staff as they try to survive in politics. Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars as Meyer and says the VP is in for a tough time this season as she bids for the Presidency. SOUNDBITE (English) Actor, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, saying: "Well, of course she feels as though she should be the nominee of the party, seeing as she's Vice President, but it's not going to come as easily to her as she might feel it should. She certainly has a feeling of entitlement. And so she has to get outside of Washington and meet the real people and you can imagine how badly that's going to go." Matt Walsh, who plays Assistant to the VP, Mike McLintock, believes Meyer's run for the Oval Office lets the show delve into some controversial topics. SOUNDBITE (English) Actor, Matt Walsh, saying: "Season three is all about Selina Meyer's campaign for President so we touch on the abortion issue, we go into the gun lobby, deal with them, we go to Silicon Valley for some billionaires, get some money. She's gotta do it safely so she's not in trouble for campaigning." "Veep" was created by Armando Iannucci, the British producer behind UK hit "The Thick of It". SOUNDBITE (English) Executive Producer, Armando Iannucci, saying: "I mean we work really hard, and we have writers, you know, we write and rewrite and rewrite, you know the scripts go through sometimes twenty, thirty drafts, and then the cast are so on all the time." Season three of "Veep" starts in the U.S. on April 6th.
