Chelsea Clinton announced on Thursday she is pregnant with the first grandchild of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Vanessa Johnston reports.
Chelsea Clinton made a big announcement in New York City Thursday. SOUNDBITE (English) CHELSEA CLINTON SAYING: "Mark and I are very excited that we have our first child arriving later this year." (audience applause) She revealed the news at an event on empowering women. Her mother, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was seated next to her on stage. SOUNDBITE (English) CHELSEA CLINTON SAYING: "And I certainly feel all the better, whether it's a girl or a boy, that she or he will grow up in a world full of so many strong, young female leaders." Hillary said she was "really excited" to be a grandmother. It will be the first grandchild for her and former President Bill Clinton. Chelsea spent much of her youth in the White House, where her parents tried their best to shield her from the public eye. Now in her thirties, she works as Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation. Grandmother-to-be Hillary Clinton is currently considering a run for the White House in 2016.
