April 21 - The 136th Easter Egg Roll brings more than 30,000 people to the White House. This year's theme is ''Hop into Healthy, Swing into Shape''. Vanessa Johnston reports.
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle hosted the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday. SOUNDBITE (English) PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, BARACK OBAMA, SAYING: "Happy Easter! This is the biggest event we have at the White House all year long, and it is our most fun event." More than 30,000 people attended. The First Lady's "Let's Move" initiative introduced healthy food and activities to this year's program. SOUNDBITE (English) FIRST LADY OF THE UNITED STATES, MICHELLE OBAMA, SAYING: "We want our kids to be the healthiest and the strongest they can be, so they can do well in school and live up to all of their God given potential. Isn't that right, parents?" The theme for the event was appropriately titled "Hop into Healthy, Swing into Shape." The president blew a whistle to kick off the official Easter Egg Roll where children rolled wooden eggs along the White House lawn. Obama also read the children's classic "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. And played some basketball and tennis. The Easter Egg Roll was launched by President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1878.
