U.S. President Barack Obama has chosen former Procter & Gamble Chief Executive Bob McDonald, an Army veteran, as his nominee to be the next veterans affairs secretary. Gavino Garay reports.
U.S. President Barack Obama reportedly chooses Bob McDonald - the former head of Procter & Gamble CEO and Army veteran - as his next secretary of embattled department of veterans affairs. An administration official said Obama was attracted by McDonald's corporate background and military service. He retired a year ago after 33 years with Procter & Gamble - which is a Fortune 500 company. If confirmed, he will succeed Eric Shinseki, who resigned late in May after the depth of the VA's problems was uncovered -- including evidence of delays in military veterans getting healthcare. Obama will likely make the announcement this week.
