Ukrainian Defense Minister Valery Heletey calls to inform Kiev that they've reclaimed the Eastern city of Artemivsk during a weekend offensive in the Dontesk region. Deborah Gembara reports.
Ukrainian forces are now in control of the eastern city of Artemivsk. They captured the Eastern city in Donetsk as part of a government offensive. Ukraine's Defense Minister (on phone) delivered the news to President Petro Poroshenko. SOUNDBITE: UKRAINIAN DEFENSE MINISTER, VALERY HELETEY SAYING (UKRAINIAN): "Mr. President, we have cleaned out all entrances to the town of Artemivsk that were mined." With that, they raised the Ukrainian flag over the main government building downtown. The weekend offensive also saw Ukrainian forces tighten their grip on Slaviansk, the site of some of the fiercest fighting with pro-Russian separatists since the uprising began in April. On Monday, forces handed out meat and bread to hundreds of locals in the city' main square. It's a step they hope will help quell some of the anger here.
