(SOUNDBITE) (German) GERMANY FAN, NICO, SAYING: "We are so happy to have won this thing here in Rio, in the Maracana. It was so close but it was great. It was a great game, we made it. Germany. Germany. Germany." A stunning goal in the 113th minute by substitute Mario Goetze gave the Germans the one goal it needed. The result also left Argentina forward Lionel Messi without the title he so craved to crown his glittering career. Outside Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium, heartbreak for the Argentine fans. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) ARGENTINA FAN, SANTIAGO, SAYING: "They played equally well so it could have been one or the other to win. But in life you win and lose. It was a great match, congratulations Germany and Argentina will get back up again." This was the first World Cup victory in the Americas for a European team.
