Outgoing House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says he will resign his seat early following his stunning defeat in the Republican primary election. Linda So reports.
Representative Eric Cantor is calling it quits. The outgoing House Majority Leader said on Friday he will leave Congress on August 18th, months earlier than expected. Cantor, who stepped down from his leadership position on Thursday says he has asked Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe to hold a special election to coincide with the November election. Cantor made the announcement in a column he wrote in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. His stunning defeat came in June when he lost the Republican primary to David Brat, a Tea Party-backed college economics professor.
