Crowds gather at the funeral of a Kurdish soldier who was killed while fighting Islamic State militants near Kirkuk in Iraq. Gavino Garay reports.
Hundreds of mourners gather at the funeral of one of two Peshmerga militants killed in their fight against Islamic State militants in Iraq. A Kurdish flag is draped over his coffin. Family members attempt to cope with their loss. Kurdish fighters, known here as 'peshmerga', have been battling Islamic State militants since the Islamic group began a brutal onslaught in the north of the country. U.S. President Barack Obama ordered air strikes in the country last month after much of the Kurdish-controlled territory fell to Islamic State fighters. But for the family and friends of a fallen soldier, the threat of Islamic State fighters could not be more real.
