ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) President Obama visited Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey, to thank troops and their families for their service. He also used the occasion to mark the end of the combat mission in Afghanistan. "Let me just say to all of you who have returned from Afghanistan in recent weeks, on behalf of a grateful nation, I want to say welcome home, you're home for the holidays, we're glad to have you back," said Obama. Foreign troops in Afghanistan will wind up their combat missions by Dec. 31. The International Security Assistance Joint Command, which ran the coalition combat operations in Afghanistan, then will hand over to a much reduced international support and training mission that begins on January 1.
