It's a promising day for Imad Al-Atrash, the Palestine Wildlife Society's Executive Director. The society is releasing two eagle owls into the wild to mark National Bird Day. Al-Atrash says he hopes they can boost the population which is disappearing in the region. SOUNDBITE: Imad Al-Atrash, executive director, Palestine Wildlife Society, saying (Arabic): "The number (of eagle owls) is decreasing. They are likely to become extinct from the Palestinian nature. So our message to the Palestinians is that we should save the birds and the animals that are a national treasure for all of us in Palestine." The owls were fitted with a metal identification before being released. Al-Atrash says he hopes President Mahmoud Abbas' signing of the 'Biodiversity Convention' will help promote awareness and protect wildlife in the Palestinian Territories.
