Video shows Turkish Coast Guard intercepting a ship carrying more than 300 Syrian migrants trying to reach Europe. Mana Rabiee reports.
Turkish Coast Guard chase a migrant boat in the Mediterranean they say carries hundreds of Syrians. It's headed to Italy, the Coast Guard says, but it's being intercepted off the Turkish port of Mersin. Turkey's location makes it a major destination for human trafficking and the conflicts in Syria and Libya made the number of people crossing these waters last year to soar. Fifteen people on board this ship will be detained on charges of smuggling migrants. The coast guard storm the boat and tell the migrants to come down. They count 333 Syrians on board. The U.N. says some 160,000 seaborne migrants arrived in Italy by November of last year. Thousands more have died attempting the journey. Many of these Syrians likely paid smugglers up to $2,000 to travel .... only to get this far.
