A suicide car bomb exploded outside a hotel occupied by a Turkish delegation in Mogadishu on Thursday, a day before a visit by President Tayyip Erdogan. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.
A day before the Turkish President is expected in Mogadishu, a bomb explodes outside a hotel occupied by a Turkish delegation. At least two police officers are killed in the attack claimed by the al Shabab militant group. Sources tell Reuters the blast will not interfere with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan's trip to the Somali capital. Turkey is a key ally of the Somali government. It was a major contributor to the humanitarian aid effort at the height of the 2011 famine and Ankara continues to build hospitals and dispatch aid across Somalia.
