Stars brave the rain for the world premiere of 'The Gunman' in London, and shower Sean Penn with praise for his first leading role in an action film. Rollo Ross reports.
Sean Penn turned out in London on February 16 alongside his reported fiancee Charlize Theron to launch 'The Gunman', the latest thriller from 'Taken' director Pierre Morel. In the film, Penn plays an ex-special forces soldier, who finds his past catching up with him, after an assassination he was hired for has unexpected consequences. Penn is known as one of the best actors of his generation and his co-stars Idris Elba, Ray Winstone and Mark Rylance were keen to gush about him on the red carpet. SOUNDBITE actor, Ray Winstone, saying (English): "He's a chap. He's a good boy, he shoots from the hip, he knows what he's talking about, very straightforward honest guy, you know." SOUNDBITE actor, Idris Elba, saying (English): "He's a great actor but you know like, he just brought a depth to the action genre with his character so that's good." SOUNDBITE actor, Ray Winstone, saying (English): "You think 'Oh Sean, he's getting on a bit' - he looks as fit as a butcher's dog." SOUNDBITE actor, Mark Rylance, saying (English): "He was just so generous, I think he's one of the most generous people I've ever met." SOUNDBITE actor, Idris Elba, saying (English): "He's got it all man, he can do it, he doesn't need any tips from Idris." He may be honest, fit and generous but the one thing he's not is talkative as Sean snubbed the reporters waiting in the rain at the premiere. 'The Gunman' hits UK cinemas on March 20.
