Amateur video appears to show fierce fighting between rebel groups, government forces, Kurds and Islamic State militants in Syria. Nathan Frandino reports.
As Syria approaches the fourth anniversary of the uprising that morphed into a civil war, the fighting remains as fierce as ever. New amateur video appears to show the battle for Doreen, a town in the Latakia countryside. The Syrian army took Doreen from Nusra and other groups a week ago, but Nusra fighters on Wednesday claimed to have expelled the army from the city. Reuters cannot independently verify the video, which was posted on social media. Meanwhile, in Deraa, video appears to show the Free Syrian Army targeting forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad. The city was among those where peaceful protests kicked off four years ago. In the north, Kurdish fighters are battling the ultra-radical Islamic State. The amateur video appears to show the two groups fighting for control of territory near the Syrian-Turkish border. A monitoring group says fighting on Wednesday between the two left dozens dead, adding to the 200,000 killed in the increasingly bloody conflict.
