Lauren Bacall's estate prepares to sell her prized possessions at auction. John Russell reports.
Bonhams auction house is set to sell the personal items of Hollywood actress Lauren Bacall, in what they have called 'the collection of collections.' The multiple day sale will feature 740 lots in 12 categories including, art, clothing and furniture. Jon King, the vice president and director of business development for Bonhams, who knew Bacall during the last five years of her life, explains. SOUNDBITE Jon King, vice president and director of business development for Bonhams, saying (English): "She started collecting literally the year that she married Humphrey Bogart. And we know that because we have seen photographs of her original houses in Benedict Canyon and in Holmby Hills in Los Angeles. And we've identified several of the pieces here." Other items in the sale include silver, directors chairs, a game table once owned by Humphrey Bogart and clothing. During her long career Bacall appeared in more than 30 films and on Broadway. The Bacall Collection, estimated to be worth 3 million dollars. (USD), will be sold at Bonhams on March 31 and April 1 in New York.
