Turkish security forces say they've arrested nine British nationals trying to cross illegally into Syria. Yiming Woo reports.
Turkey says it's caught nine Britons trying to cross illegally into Syria. They were arrested near the Turkish side of the border. It's not clear what their motive was. Last month, three British teenagers suspected of planning to join Islamic State in Syria were arrested by London police after they were deported from Turkey. An estimated 600 Britons have gone to Syria or Iraq to join militant groups. About half are thought to have returned. Thousands from various countries have joined the ranks of radical groups, many of them crossing through Turkey. Istanbul has faced criticism for lax border control. It's in turn accused Europe of failing to prevent would-be jihadists from travelling in the first place.
