Russian Air Force pilots practice complicated combat maneuvers with helicopters and planes near the Ukrainian border. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Dozens of Russian helicopters and airplane pilots participated in large-scale training drills on Friday , practicing locating and hitting ground targets in the country's Krasnodar Region, in the south and near the Ukrainian border. Pilots flew Mi-28 N "Night Hunter", Ka-52 "Alligator", Mi-35 "Crocodile", Mi-24P attack helicopters and Mi-8AMTSh "Terminator" assault transport helicopters. Other pilots reviewed flight plans on the ground before taking to the skies in to complete complicated maneuvers in tandem and hitting ground targets in MiG-27, MiG-29, Su-34 and Su-25 SM "Rook" aircraft. Monitors on the aircraft showed the rockets' path as they were fired from the planes and exploded on impact with the ground. Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised to spend more than 21 trillion rubles (340 billion US dollars) by the end of the decade to overhaul Russia's fighting forces.
