North Korea's state media releases video footage showing its leader Kim Jong Un watching a soccer match with his wife Ri Sol Ju in Pyongyang. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.
On Tuesday, North Korea's state media airs footage showing its leader Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sol Ju watching a soccer match. The game was held on Monday in Pyongyang. Russia says Kim is expected to attend the May 9 celebrations in Moscow, marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two. That would be Kim's first official trip overseas since becoming leader in 2011 after the death of his father. South Korea's president will not attend the event and will instead send an envoy. The two Koreas' first summit in 2000 led to a period of rapidly warming ties after decades of hostility. A second summit was held in 2007 with more promises of exchanges, but relations cooled after a conservative president took office in the South in 2008.
