ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) The Russian army on Saturday (April 25) carried out artillery drills in the southern Rostov region bordering Ukraine. Twelve 2A18 howitzers were used in Saturday's drills. Soldiers prepared the guns for shooting, loaded them with blank shells and fired practice rounds. In late April the servicemen of the Southern Military District started training on the military grounds. Despite the economic crisis brought on by low prices for its energy exports as well as Western sanctions, Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised to spend more than 21 trillion roubles (413 billion USD) to revamp the military by the end of the decade.
