ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) President Barack Obama honors Shanna Peeples as the 2015 National Teacher of the Year during a ceremony at the White House, Wednesday (April 29). "Many of her students face challenges that would overwhelm adults, let alone kids. About 85% are considered economically disadvantaged. Many are refugees from places like Iraq and Somalia," Obama said, speaking about Peeples' classroom. The President also honored the 2015 National Teacher of the Year and finalists, thanking them for their hard work and dedication in the classroom. The National Teacher of the Year was chosen from among the State Teachers of the Year by a national selection committee representing the major national education organizations organized by the Council of Chief State School Officers.
