Independent Senator Bernie Sanders says he's seeking the 2106 Democratic nomination for president. Nathan Frandino reports.
Independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is seeking the 2016 Democratic nomination for president. He made the announcement Thursday in an email to supporters. The self-described socialist will go up against frontrunner Hillary Clinton. He says he can compete by attracting small contributions from millions of Americans. Sanders and other liberal Democrats have been pressing Clinton to move to the left on economic policy. But now, with his candidacy, 73-year-old Sanders - the longest serving independent member of Congress - will likely carry that baton himself.
