An Italian naval vessel brings 779 migrants to a port in southern Italy as the wave of new arrivals continues (no reporter narration)
ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION The Italian naval vessel Bersagliere brought 779 migrants to the port of Reggio Calabria in southern Italy on Monday (May 4). Several children were carried off the vessel for medical attention but most of the migrants were said to be in good health. Many will now be transferred to reception centres throughout Italy. Some thirty of those rescued were children and 114 women. Mild spring weather and calm summer seas are expected to push total arrivals in Italy for 2015 to 200,000, an increase of 30,000 on last year, according to an Interior Ministry projection. About 1,800 are estimated to have perished during the crossing already this year, the UN refugee agency said, while some 51,000 have entered Europe by sea, with 30,500 coming via Italy.
