The Syrian army and their Hezbollah allies launched an offensive on the strategic city Zabadani, which is close to the Lebanese border on the Beirut-Damascus highway. Deborah Gembara reports.
Syrian forces backed by Hezbollah fighters are launching an offensive on Zabadani, as seen in this latest handout video from the Syrian military. They've been carrying out artillery attacks on the city, which is considered critical because it's close to the Beirut-Damascus highway, and borders Lebanon. Rebels took control of Zabadani nearly three years ago and have reportedly planted mines around the city as they brace for a street by street fight. Recapturing the city would be a major victory for Syrian soldiers -- giving them control of a major supply route from Lebanon into Damascus.
