Civilians and civil defense workers rescue injured after a Syrian regime air strike hits town outside Damascus. Sean Carberry reports.
STORY: This amateur video shows the aftermath of what is said to be a Syrian government airstrike in Saqba, a town in the eastern outskirts of Damascus. These videos were uploaded to social media websites and are said to be shot on Sunday. There has been a marked escalation in Syria's conflict including intensified fighting near Damascus this month. The pace of the war first accelerated in March, with rebels supported by states including Saudi Arabia and Turkey making significant gains against depleted government forces. The Syrian military has received crucial backing from Iran and Lebanon's Hezbollah. Rebel groups have begun new offensives in areas seen as vital to the survival of President Bashar al Assad. The government has hit back with air strikes against which the rebels remain mostly defenseless. The regime claims it targets only rebels, however activists say civilians are the main victims.
