The bodies of 34 drowned migrants including babies and children are recovered near Rhodes Island, as officials call for action against the traffickers. Mana Rabiee reports.
Their journey to Europe ended off the Greek island of Farmakonisi, where their wooden boat capsized. Nearly half of the 34 migrants who drowned were babies and children. The incident is the latest in a growing tally of lives lost, desparate migrants and refugees entrusting human traffickers to take them across the sea to a better life in Europe. Local prefecture Governor, George Hatzimarkos, calls it 'Another tragedy caused by the Turkish traffickers'. 'Clear murder,' he says. The coast guard says nearly 70 survivors were rescued from the water and another 30 from the same boat found on Farmakonisi island. Meanwhile, body after body was taken off a dock on Rhodes island and transported to the local hospital morgue. The victim's identities and nationalities not immediately clear.
