A city in ruins as Yemen's Taiz becomes a battlefield.
Troops loyal to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, backed by Saudi-led coalition forces, have been trying to oust the Iran-backed Houthi rebels from the city for several months.
A pro-Hadi commander sounds off against Houthis and those loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) LOCAL PRO-HADI COMMANDER, SADEQ AL MAHYOUB, SAYING:
"Despite the heavy shelling on the innocent civilians, the heavy and light weapons, and tanks, we say to the Houthis and their allies, they will not have even an inch of this governorate even when we're dead."
Taiz, Yemen's third largest city, has become a major front in a battle where Gulf Arab troops are supporting Hadi fighters against what they see as the expanding influence of Iran, their non-Arab and Shi'ite Muslim arch-foe.
