ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz says the man accused of killing three people and wounding nine in a shooting rampage at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs appears to be a 'deranged individual.' Several U.S. media outlets, citing unnamed law enforcement sources, have said Robert Lewis Dear used the phrase "no more baby parts" in rambling statements he made to investigators after his surrender. Reuters could not independently confirm those reports. The reported comment was widely seen as an apparent reference to secretly recorded videos released months ago that anti-abortion groups have said showed Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of aborted fetal tissue. Planned Parenthood has said the videos in question were produced to distort the issue of fetal-tissue donations made by the group for scientific research. It says reimbursements the organization received to cover the costs of those donations was neither unlawful nor unethical. "Well I think there has been some vicious rhetoric on the left blaming those who are pro-life. I'll tell you I am proud to be unambiguously pro-life. to support and protect every human life from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death. Every human life is a gift from God," said Cruz. Police in Colorado Springs have said they do not know what precipitated Friday's attack and have declined to publicly discuss whether the suspect was motivated by anti-abortion sentiments. U.S. Justice Department officials have joined the investigation by state and local authorities, raising the possibility the federal government could bring a terrorism or civil rights case against Dear, or both. "I would call it a murder and we will see what the facts are. It was a multiple murder of what appears to be a deranged individual and it was horrific, it was evil, and we will find out more about the facts but I don't think we should jump to conclusions until we know the facts of this individual and why he carried out this horrific murder," said Cruz.
